A Little Cold War History – 1955 Dodge C3 Pickup

This 1955 Dodge C3 is a great looking and comes with a little history attached. It was originally used by the Civil Defense in the Dallas area. It comes to us at this time to have some air conditioning installed. Seems things are hot all over!

Here is the 1955 Dodge C2 Pickup after arriving at Headquarters Machine & Restoration.
A long trip to get the very best mechanical restoration for this ancient civil defense vehicle.

The Federal Civil Defense Administration (FCDA), set up in 1951 to convince us citizens that an atomic attack was survivable, used the principles of emergency operations: prevention, mitigation, preparation, response, emergency evacuation and recovery.

Would you believe this engine is a Hemi? This is a rebuilt 315 w/ a rebuilt 4-speed on the floor. This C3 was also the first year of the pilot house wraparound front windshield!

Gull-wing access to the engine compartment? This is an example of the marvelous design work that took place on vehicles of the 1900’s.

This truck was a daily reminder for all those whose paths it crossed. This writer remembers getting under the desk in 2nd grade in 1962 and somehow being reassured that someone was in control! A great truck from a different time.
